Okay, okay, I PROMISE – this really is the last message before the reunion
(all bets are off after the reunion’s over, though!) Keep checking the new
website (thanks again, Sam!) after the reunion. We’ll be adding pictures and
the reunion biography book and lots of other stuff that we just haven’t
thought of yet. If you haven’t filled out a bio yet (teachers or classmates)
please go here and fill out the form – once completed,
it automatically goes to me.
Additions to the classmate/teacher guest list:
-
Molly Bacon Shakeri
-
Ann Crimmins
-
Patricia Mora Nelson
-
Dave Gewanter
-
Jo-Ann Kern
-
Diane Zalewski
-
Margaret Pagano
If your name isn’t here and you haven’t signed up yet, you’ll miss all the
fun! There’s room for everyone, so let us know you are coming ASAP (by
e-mail or call 860-658-5442)
and bring your check for $85 to the door.
A chance to save your 25th reunion self for posterity: We
are pleased to announce that Pat Wood ‘03, son of Dick Wood ’77, will be at
the reunion videotaping the festivities. Pat, who already has an outstanding
reputation as a film maker and who will be attending the NYU film school in
the fall, will be interviewing alumni and teachers and taping some general
reunion footage (we did ask him to avoid taping the dancing…is that a
collective sigh of relief I hear?). Pat will be one of two SHS seniors with
us on Saturday night; also joining us will be Dan Campolieta, an extremely
accomplished jazz pianist who will be attending the University of
Connecticut honors music education program in the fall. (So says his very
proud mother !) Both have been prepped to answer “So what’s it like at the
old school these days?” and “How’s the food in the café?” type of questions
without rolling their eyes or sighing too much.
Auction additions: Several classmates have stepped forward to add to
our auction items. Jane Spatcher McAlpine has added a coffee table book,
“Vanished Civilizations: The Hidden Secrets of Lost Cities and Forgotten
Peoples” (a book Mr. Cararini would have loved, no doubt); Sonja Jacobson
Christensen has added some handmilled soaps from her home town; and Joleen
Urban Benedict has donated 4 tickets to SLOCO’s current production and she
secured a donation of a Simsbury hat and tee-shirt from the incomparable
Vincent’s Sport Shop. We are most appreciative of these and the other
donations. Joan Ramsay has provided me with a description of the Cararini
Scholarship; the Cararini family will make the selection and the first
presentation will be to a member of the Class of 2003 who is pursuing a
career in education and exemplifies Mr. Cararini’s love of teaching. If you
are not attending the reunion but would like to bid on an item, please
follow the directions on the website.
If you are unable to attend but would like to make a donation to the
Cararini Scholarship, please make out a check to the scholarship fund and
send it to me and I will include it with the proceeds of the auction.

You are coming Saturday, but now want to come to the Sunday brunch too:
Just let me know by e-mail or, if at 10:30 p.m. Saturday night someone
convinces you to, find me (not on the dance floor) and I will add you to
the list. Hop Brook has said there is room for more people – but you do
need to pay ahead of time.
-
You are attending Saturday and Sunday and want to make sure there is
food for you on Sunday morning: Then don’t forget the clocks change on
Sunday morning, 2 a.m. Fall back, Spring ahead.
-
You are attending the pizza party and don’t know whether to park in the
east or west parking lot: Try the east. There’s a bonfire scheduled at
the school at 7 p.m. so the west may be crowded.
-
You don’t remember which is the east parking lot: Think dumpsters.
-
You forgot where the SHS café is. Sorry, you’ll have to figure that
one out on your own.
-
You need a good place to eat lunch on Saturday: Try Peaberry’s Café
in the Drake Hill Mall or The Perfect Pear down by where Taylor Rental
used to be. One Way Fare is still there, Metro Bis in the SimsburyTown
Shops is pricy but nice and there’s Little City Pizza in SimsburyTown too.
My new personal favorite, Cosi, is conveniently located next to Pier One
on Rt. 44 right across from the Avon Marketplace and Simsbury Commons
(formerly known as the Farmington Valley Mall…it has a Borders and a movie
theater too). A.C. Peterson’s also just re-opened in its old spot if you
are looking for familiarity and October Farms has excellent ice cream if
you believe in going right for the good stuff.
That about covers it, I have to go paste stuff and make nametags right now.
If you’ve got questions about anything or need help (with what I don’t know,
but whatever) please e-mail or call me (not tonight, okay?).
If you haven’t replied and really, really, really want to come – PLEASE DO!!
Just be sure to let us know asap!
Nancy
